The Feather
Frequently, children of abuse and trauma have dreams of flight, the ability to fly far above the gravitational pull of Earth without mechanical assistance. It does not take a trained psychologist to interpret these dreams. It is clear the unconscious tries to protect the soul. Individuals want and need to escape their inner psychic turmoil and pain. I too was no exception; dreams of flight were frequent, although less now, they are now a more positive flight, not a flight of escape.
Native Americans believe that finding a feather is a gift, a gift from our winged ones, our brothers and sisters that we admire sailing and gliding on winds of time. I have given a few feathers to others and I tell them the story of the importance of the feather and what it means to me. These feathers have been given to friends experiencing loss of a loved one, a child who is intrigued with the feathers beauty, or a person I have loved and cherish dearly who has touched my heart.
I have asked myself numerous times as others have, “Why do we walk this Earth?” “What is our purpose here?” For me it comes down to two conclusions. Making someone else’s life better, and giving back to others. All other reasons are selfish and are harbored in narcissism, monetary gain, greed and power. Those with the most toys will not win in the end.
We must teach our children to blaze their own trail, empower them, give them hope, so in turn they will give back and instill hope to their children.
There are many causes out there to give financial gifts to. All are important, there are children and families starving, there are the homeless, the victims of national disasters, and victims of abuse.
This is why I am creating Feathers For Freedom.com. Please help give back to victims of abuse. No amount is too small and 100% of the donation goes directly to organizations dedicated to offering help and freeing children from the depression, shame, guilt, and rage of abuse.
