Pedophile Prophiles

Pedophiles cross all races and all socioeconomic boundaries. Pedophiles are doctors, lawyers, bus drivers, and relatives. There is no one direct stereotype. We do know they when they get caught they are usually over thirty years old, however are much younger when they commit their first offense. Physically they are shorter than the average male, making them less than six foot tall. They are engaging with children, and must be kind, and have an ability to instill trust.

Pedophiles usually have other fetishes than just sexually abusing children. Forensic profiles have found they have been involved with exhibitionism, voyeurism, as well as a variety of other deviant behavior. They frequently work around children, have sought employment at daycare facilities, movie theaters, arcades, and other jobs that put them closer to children. They are patient and can take up to a year before they abuse. Pedophiles must gain the trust of the child, which involves a process called grooming. Grooming is the term applied to the slow, deliberate manipulation to gain trust before they offend.

Pedophiles usually do not get caught for their most horrendous offense. They, like serial killers get sloppy and over confident. When they make mistakes and do not cover their tracks, is usually when they get caught. They have an offender cycle. During this cycle they have brief moments of guilt. It is during these phase of guilt that treatment can be mildly helpful. Unfortunately, it is short lived, and a re offense is imminent.

Pedophiles favorite magazines are frequently Sears and J C Penny catalogs. They will become aroused looking at clothed pictures of children. There are too aspects to pedophiles in terms of their drive. Clearly there is a sexual arousal state, however there is a controlling part of their personality which is imperative to look at. It is not that uncommon to see pedophiles in their sixth and seventh decade of life who are physiologically impotent and still offend.

They have a need to control, and be part of the child’s inner most network. They can and will gain the trust of not only the child but the family as well.

Treatment of a pedophile has an extremely high failure rate. The best prevention, is education of the child, creating a safe atmosphere at home so the child will feel comfortable disclosing, as well as quick action by reporting to the authorities.
