Long May You Run

by Dan

As Neil Young states in his song, ” Long may you run, although these changes have come..” My dear friend gave me a card for my fifty decades I lived on this earth. She has since moved to Colorado, however her teachings and friendship forever stay in my heart. Friendship is like that. Finding true friends is a hard commodity. There must be pain, disclosure, sharing and time. I miss her terribly, however her teachings and talks will always remain dear to me.

Changes will always occur in life. We have unexpected traumas, children age as do we. Births, deaths and celebrations continue. Today is my best friend and love of my life, birthday of her father, who left this earth over one year ago. I see him through her and his grandson. His teachings were old fashioned but true with integrity. He worked hard, lived in a dirt floor shack in  Arkansas and moved to the North were he developed a business and retired in his forties. He had to make changes, drastic changes for himself and his family. he was uneducated and successful. He was however educated with life and a great story teller. His love for his wife and family were amazing. I never met him, but I meet him every time I look into my girlfriends eyes.

“J” had passion and love of family. He had the want and desire to better himslf through adversity. It does not matter if there was abuse in your past, hardships, or any trauma. Never whine, complain or make excuses. Very hard to do in this quick fix wanna be society. He had faith that his children could do anything they wanted and they have. Run for the apex of life, don’t hesitate, don’t think you cannot do it. If you think you can’t you won’t.

We all must continue to run. Run for success, run towards happiness, run away from pathology of others that bring us down, and run toward future goals. If we stay in one place we become stagnate, and age must quicker.

My birthday gift to “J” is to write this blog in his memory. He was a teacher to all who knew him. I know for a fact he did a great job in raising his children. He taught them about nature, giving , accepting others. I know because I see those traits in my best friend.

Let us all keep running, although these changes do come. happy birthday “J” I wish I could of met you. Your teachings are still being passed down.
