From a Child’s Eyes

If one has a hard time imagining what it was like when we were seven or eight years-old go out to a weed field, corn field or your backyard. Get down on your knees and take a long look at trees, the sky, and an adult loved one if one is close by. We are small, short in stature, if we are lucky we can remember the joy of being raised up onto our father’s or mother’s shoulders. That exhilarating lift and perspective has stayed with me. When I refused to get on my father’s shoulders due to my guilt and confusion, I temporarily lost that feeling and feared I would never get it back.

There are many ways to rise on the shoulders of life; to see the world from a different perspective. Our own personal views of life can change by looking at tragedies- as well as joys-differently. Sharing my story, Above His Shoulders, is my attempt to do that for my audience. Try looking back, and then forward. A new path is there for you. Take the steps to make positive changes. The book alone will not do this for you; it is only one tool in your tool bag of life.

After my first presentation and book signing, I want to thank all those that came. More importantly those that came up to me afterwards and disclosed their own abuse, and their own stories. Powerful disclosure and connections occur. When my eyes meet another who has gone through a similar horrific experience, there is a bonding, and understanding. The hugs, tears and connections were amazing.

Thank you all. Please continue to spread the word. We can slowly make a difference, educating our children and helping our own relationships by understanding how we contribute. My next presentation and book signing will be in Rockton,Illinois at the Talcott Public Library,Feb. 21st at eleven a.m. SEE YOU THERE !!

I am happy to announce the book has been out less than one week and I have achieved one of my goals. Recently, I have had two men in their fifth and sixth decade of life disclose their history of sexual abuse to me. They were happy I released the book, although somewhat reticent to disclose. They told me I was the first person they ever told and shared their story with. If I never sell another copy of the book I feel I have at least reached one of my goals. What they chose to do with this disclosure is up to them. At least Above His Shoulders was a catalyst to get them processing and thinking about their options.
