Oprah stepped up to the plate with no embellishment, no sensationalism. She had a great show on November 5th and will air the second part on November 12th this coming Friday. The more awareness on this issue of sex abuse the better. All too frequently women are stereotyped as the victim. Yes, statistics show the majority of sex abuse victims are women, however one in six men have experienced sex abuse. There are far less books written on the topic of male sex abuse, and because of stereotypes men are reluctant to come forward. “Above His Shoulders” is only one of many resources to give a path of healing, and show through metaphors and hope that there is indeed a light at the end of the tunnel. Frequently we close off, and lock away the secrets, they rear their ugly head later in life and in relationships, and throughout life experiences. When one realizes that disclosure can be a catalyst for help, the quicker one will walk down a path of resolution. November 12th, Oprah be there.
