Hey Dan, thank you for the refreshing article. I grew up with a house full of sisters, so I may be even more averse than most guys to doing things considered 'feminine'. But, my wife talked me into accompanying her for a pedicure and I have to admit, my inhibitions just melted away!
I can attest that it is truly a treat to have your feet massaged with warm water and lotion, and my feet not only felt better afterwards, but they looked pretty good too. My toenails had been somewhat (okay, very) rough and they smoothed, cleaned and shaped them so they looked perfect. Polish was offered, but I declined, still having a bit of inhibition about it being feminine-only, but I may try it next time.

As you say, trying new experiences and dropping preconceived notions can be quite exhilerating!

John.
My feeling is that it appears to be harbored in a few areas. A false pride spill over from misguided father figures, a mis-perception about what it means to be a man, and media stereotypes. Do what you want, life is short. As for as the nail polish, I ma not there. For me it is not my cup of tea.

Thanks for the reply.

This is a refreshing article about something I have wondered about as well. Why are men afraid to take care of themselves and do a little 'fixing up' to look and feel better? It's obvious that it works for women. Men sometimes have high-stress jobs, so all the more reason to relax, unwind and enjoy some personal care.
My wife managed to talk me into my first pedicure five years ago while traveling. Maybe the new venue allowed me to relax enough to try it, but whatever the reason, it got me hooked instantly! It made my feet feel and look so much younger that my wife even bought me a new pair of leather sandals to wear during the rest of the trip.

I have noticed that there is more noise about men getting polish with pedicures and clear seems to be the most common color, though french and dark colors have been mentioned as well for men. I am intrigued by this new style but haven't gotten up the nerve to try it yet. I wonder if any readers or the author have any more experience with this.
